GETTING IN THE GAME
Story for the St. John's Magazine. It's about three Johnnies who have made a living in pro sports - Trent Kirchner, Anthony LaPanta and Bryant Pfeiffer. Read the original story here.

SAVOR THE JOURNEY...AND DON'T LOSE
This was an essay about high school basketball that appeared in Minnesota Basketball News.

KEEPIN' THE FAITH
This story was part of a three-story feature package, written in September 2003, two weeks after Trinity Bible College's historic 105-0 defeat. This story would eventually lead to the book on the team.

COACHING CLINIC
Dave Retzlaff and Ann Williams are two of the most successful junior college basketball coaches in the country. Retzlaff coaches the men's basketball team at Fergus Falls Community and Technical College in Minnesota while Williams coaches the school's women's team. They've combined to win more than 1,000 games. This story appeared in The Fargo Forum in February 2004.

COLOR THEM BAD
Paintball has grown in popularity over the years and it's not hard to imagine why - people like shooting guns, even non-lethal ones.

JUST PLAIN TOUGH
There are probably stranger sports than strongest man competitions. But it's hard to imagine what they'd be. There's something disconcerting about watching grown men strain to lift giant boulders or push giant tires. The competitors do, though, take a lot of pride in their chosen craft, however strange that craft may be.

TOUGH SPORT TO HANDICAP? YOU BET
This story appeared shortly before a horse track opened in Fargo. The story was supposed to help people learn how to bet on horse racing. It likely did little to help them learn how to win while betting on horse racing.
